Family is the most important aspect of my life. I believe that the family consists of a father and a mother, a man and a woman, legally married to each other and children that are born to that union. I believe that the family is the fundamental unit of society. It is in the family that children learn their first lessons of citizenship and courtesy. It is the place that they are taught correct principles of behavior and are taught to behave morally. I believe that the marriage relationship between a man and a woman is the most likely to help men and women fulfill their god-given roles in this life. I believe that the love, patience, understanding, respect, and work that are required to make a marriage successful help men and women to improve themselves and to become better people. I will admit that family life has troubles at times. People are not always perfect in their behavior to one another and small differences often can seem to be compounded in the family; however, despite these difficulties, the benefits of living in a traditional family far outweigh the small difficulties. I know that there are many in the world who would disagree with my beliefs and I can understand some of their skepticism. My belief about the family is founded first in the teachings of the modern and ancient prophets of God. It is also supported and expanded by academic research and my own life experience and observation.
My Own Family
I recently started my own family when I married my sweetheart, Sarah. We are learning and growing every day as we are embarking on this new adventure together. The partnership, companionship, and love that we share are precious to me and my association with my dear wife makes me want to be a better person in all aspects of my life. We met each other in Concert Choir at Brigham Young University where we stood across the choir from each other and couldn’t help but see each other every day in rehearsals. I was singing bass and she soprano. We both love to sing, obviously, and music is an important part of our family life. We were married in 2010 in the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple.
My Parents
“I, Adam, having been born of goodly parents.” 1 This pretty much sums up my feelings about my family. I am the oldest child of Brian and Karen Arnesen. My parents met in an LDS Singles ward in Salt Lake City, UT and were married in 1984 in the Salt Lake Temple.
